I remember as a small child the parade that we had every year celebrating “Decoration Day.” We lived in the very small village of Kohler, Wisconsin. Each year the whole village would participate in a parade where the residents decorated wagons and other things (and their children), and walk down the streets of the village. I still have a newspaper article with us in our costumes (and flags), showing my mother winning first prize!
But, what really is Decoration Day – or Memorial Day as it has come to be known? Is it just another day that we have off from work? Unfortunately, that is what it has become to many people. But for others, it is still a day to honor those to who it was named for. If you would like to learn the true meaning of Memorial Day, please follow the link to find out. And, have a wonderful day!
